Travel journals were much used in the 14th-16th centuries. They were tiny and portable and were usually attached to a belt. That was the inspiration for these small, self-enclosed journals that are easily portable. I make many of them out of very sturdy hand-made paper and often add a button as a point of contrast. They are sewn longstitch style, creating the decorative stitching on the spine.
